Course Overview

This course provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge on Ultrasonic Testing including basic principles and techniques, ultrasonic wave propagation and modes, flaw detectors and displays, probes, calibration and control checks, calibration and reference blocks, types of discontinuities including sizing and characterising, product technology knowledge of forgings and relevant industry standard.
This certification is issued by PCN in accordance with ISO 20807 and DOES NOT comply with the ISO 9712 standard and its requirements.

Enrolment on this course does not constitute reservation of an examination. All courses may be followed by a CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector examination for candidates with appropriate experience as specified in CSWIP Scheme Document WI-6-92. You can download this document on the CSWIP Website.

General Theory Paper (40x multiple choice) 
Specific Theory Paper (30x multiple choice) 
Practical Exam: 5x samples & written work instruction 
Passing Grade: 70% on each component

The PCN course has two options:

EXPERIENCE: 
In order to receive a Level 2 qualification, before or after the NDT course the attendee will need to provide(maximum allowable hours in 1 day is 12 hours): 180 days experience

Enrolment documents must be lodged and payment must be received 21 days prior to the course start date. Please ensure all the documents specified in the enrolment pack are completed and returned by email to training@qmts.net.au prior to this deadline, 21 days before the start of the course and/or exam.

Your place on the course or exam will be confirmed when payment is received. If all the places on your preferred course are filled prior to receiving payment, you will need to enrol in the next available course and/or exam.

The enrolment fee for the course and exam is $2130
The course and exam runs for Course 15 Days & Exam 2.5 Days

We schedule half a day for the exam to take place, the total exam time is 120 mins. There are 2 parts to the exam:

Part A1 – Duration: 90 mins
Content: Inspect Exam Specimens
24 Questions
Required pass mark: 70%

Part B1 – Duration: 30 mins
Content: Inspect T-Joint Fillet
14 Questions
Required pass mark: 70%

If you are unsuccessful in part or all of your initial CSWIP exams, you may re-sit the failed parts at another time in accordance with the following:

  1. You will have 12 months from the date of your initial exam to re-sit the failed part/s, after this time you must repeat the entire examination.
  2. The re-sit exam may not be taken within 30 days of your previous exam, unless additional approved training is undertaken before the re-sit.
  3. If you are unsuccessful in the re-sit exam, you will be required to take the approved course in full again, followed by the full exam (if taken within 6 months of the initial course, you will receive a 50% discount on the course only).

You can choose to re-sit the failed parts of your exam by enrolling on a date reserved for HALF DAY Exams on the course calendar.

QMTS offers a Practical Tuition session in order to refresh your knowledge prior to your exam re-sit. These sessions take place on the Monday of the same week of your re-sit exam, which will take place on a Thursday. Both the training and exam will take place on site at QMTS. The training session runs for 6 hours and costs $440.

Although there is no specific experience required for this course, it is recommended that candidates possess a minimum of six months welding-related engineering experience and two years industrial experience.

Candidates must also comply with Clause 1.3.4 of CSWIP Scheme Document WI-6-92 which states that All candidates (with the exception of ‘mature candidates,’ see section 1.4) must attend a CSWIP approved course of training at the appropriate level prior to examination.

Your customer number will be emailed to you in a Post Exam Email from QMTS Industry Training.

Your Record of Vision Test can be taken to Specsavers or an Optometrist who can complete the test. 

We offer different options depending on which exams you are completing:

  1. Practical Training
    When: This sessions takes place on Monday of the same week of your scheduled exam, which takes place on Thursday. Both the practical training and exam will take place on site at QMTS. 
    Duration: 6 hours
    Cost: $440
  2. E-Learning Refresher
    When: This option is completed online, prior to your scheduled exam (valid for 60 days).
    Cost: $550
