This course provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge on Ultrasonic Testing of Welds including basic principles and techniques, ultrasonic wave propagation and modes, flaw detectors and displays, probes, calibration and control checks, calibration and reference blocks, types of discontinuities including sizing and characterising, product technology knowledge of welds, relevant industry standard and written work instructions.
Certification is issued as Butt Welds in Plate (3.1), Butt Welds in Pipe (3.2).
Ultrasonic Testing of Welds (UTW) is open to candidates with UT Thickness certification. The PCN course is either 5 days (direct entry) or 10 days (with UT Thickness). A total of 180 days of experience (max 12 hours/day) is required for Level 2 qualification.
