Course Overview

This course provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge on Ultrasonic Testing including basic principles and techniques, ultrasonic wave propagation and modes, flaw detectors and displays, probes, calibration and control checks, calibration and reference blocks, types of discontinuities including sizing and characterising, product technology knowledge of forgings and relevant industry standard.

This certification is issued by PCN in accordance with ISO 20807 and DOES NOT comply with the ISO 9712 standard and its requirements.

QMTS offers Practical Training sessions which take place prior to your scheduled exams. Both the Practical Training and Renewal and Re-sit exams take place on site at QMTS. We also offer an eLearning Refresher option which can be completed online.

Entry Requirements

Participants are expected to have basic literacy and language skills, along with a general understanding of product technology and processes.

All new students are required to complete Product Technology training before taking part on the course. The program develops the knowledge and practical skills required for Level II competency in industrial applications.

EXPERIENCE: 
In order to receive a Level 2 qualification– 60 days (maximum allowable hours in 1 day is 12 hours) experience is required (current direct entry to level 2 requirements).

To achieve certification under the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) through the PCN scheme, candidates are generally required to meet four key requirements:

  • Structured Training: Complete approved training at a BINDT-recognised training centre for the specific NDT method and certification level being pursued.
  • Vision Examination: Provide a valid and documented eye test, including near vision and colour perception, in accordance with ISO 9712 requirements prior to sitting for examinations.
  • Industrial Experience: Submit documented evidence of the required practical on-the-job experience within the chosen NDT method.
  • Examinations: Successfully pass both the theoretical and practical examinations conducted by an Authorised Qualifying Body (AQB).

All new students are required to complete the Product Technology Online Training course, which is now available through British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing.

Please ensure all enrolment documents are submitted and payment is completed at least 10 days before the course commencement date. Kindly complete and return all required documents listed in the enrolment pack via email before the deadline to:

 

Confirmation of your placement in the course or examination will only be issued once all required documentation and payment have been successfully received. Please note that if your preferred course becomes fully booked before payment is received, you will be required to register for the next available course and/or examination intake.

If you are unsuccessful in part or all of your initial exams, you may re-sit the failed parts at another time in accordance with the following:

  1. You will have 12 months from the date of your initial exam to re-sit the failed part/s, after this time you must repeat the entire examination.
  2. The re-sit exam may not be taken within 30 days of your previous exam, unless additional approved training is undertaken before the re-sit.

 

QMTS offers a Practical Training session in order to refresh your knowledge prior to your exam re-sit. These sessions are conducted one day before the scheduled examinations. Please refer to the Training Calendar for further details and session dates.

The NDT result notifications will be sent to the email address provided during enrolment.

Your examination results will typically be issued within two weeks by QMTS staff and will also be submitted to British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing for further processing. 

Your Record of Vision Test can be taken to Specsavers or an Optometrist who can complete the test. 

These sessions are conducted one day before the scheduled examinations. Please refer to the Training Calendar for further details.
