Course Overview

The CSWIP Welding Inspector course is designed for inspection engineers and supervisory staff. In preparation for this course you will have access to TWI’s online CSWIP Welding Inspector Pre-Learning package.

If you have little or no previous welding experience you’re advised to attend the Certificate in Visual Inspection of Welds course prior to this course.

This course will teach you the duties and responsibilities of a welding inspector including fusion welding processes, typical weld defects, types of steel (including carbon-manganese, low alloy, and stainless steels), the hardening of steels, weldability, heat treatment, and parent metal defects. The programme also includes visual inspection, the testing of parent metals and welds, and destructive and non-destructive test techniques.

You will learn welder and procedure approval, codes and standards, and an outline of safe working practices. There will be an opportunity to practice examination questions while undergoing continuous and end-of-course assessment. If you meet the CSWIP requirements, you will be eligible to complete the relevant CSWIP examination after the 4 day course.

Online Preparation

Prior to attending the CSWIP Welding Inspection course there is an online learning component that will provide you with an essential foundation. It will refresh your knowledge and also allow you to identify any areas of weakness or uncertainty that can be discussed with the lecturer during the full course delivery.

This is an effective supplementary resource and revision tool which supports the classroom based learning materials and course content. It provides a comprehensive blended learning experience that can assist with various types of learning styles.

In order to run the Welding Inspector Pre-course package your computer will need the following basic capabilities:

Internet connection 2Mbps minimum
Browser Internet Explorer 11 or higher (PC)
Plugin Silverlight (Download Silverlight)

Please Note

Enrolment on this course does not constitute reservation of an examination. All candidates must attend a CSWIP approved course of training prior to sitting for the exam. All courses may be followed by a CSWIP Welding Inspector examination for candidates with appropriate experience, as specified in the CSWIP scheme document WI-6-92.

Exam Format

The CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector exam consists of the following parts:
  • Theory Part 1
    Duration: 120 mins
    Content: Welding Inspection
    80 Questions
    Required Pass Mark: 70%

 

  • Theory Part 2
    Duration: 90 mins
    Content: WPS/WPQR
    40 Questions
    Required Pass Mark: 70%

 

  • Practical Part 1
    Duration: 90 mins
    Content: Exam Specimens
    24 Questions
    Required Pass Mark: 70%

Entry Requirements

To enrol in this course you have experience in at least one of the following roles for the specified time period. Your experience must be verified by your current /or previous employer.

In addition, candidates must comply with Clause 1.3.4 of CSWIP Scheme Document WI-6-92 which states that All candidates (with the exception of ‘mature candidates,’ see section 1.4) must attend a CSWIP approved course of training at the appropriate level prior to examination.

Enrolment documentation must be sent by email to training@qmts.net.au and payment of the full fee must be received no later than 3 WEEKS prior to the course start date.

You will receive an invoice for the course fee/s once we receive your correctly completed Enrolment Form and signed Terms and Conditions.

The prerequisites for CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector are as follows:

To enrol in this course you must meet at least one of the following requirements, you have been employed as a:

  • Welding Inspector for a minimum of 3 years with experience related to the duties and responsibilities listed in Clause 1.2.2 of CSWIP document WI-6-92, under qualified supervision and independently verified
  • Certified Visual Welding Inspector for a minimum of 2 years with job responsibilities in the areas listed in 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 of CSWIP document WI-6-92
  • Welding Instructor or Welding Foreman/Supervisor for a minimum of one year

Your experience must be verified by your current /or previous employer.

In addition to the above, candidates must comply with Clause 1.3.4 of CSWIP Scheme Document WI-6-92 which states that All candidates (with the exception of ‘mature candidates,’ see section 1.4) must attend a CSWIP approved course of training at the appropriate level prior to examination.

Enrolment documents must be lodged and payment must be received 21 days prior to the course start date. Please ensure all the documents specified in the enrolment pack are completed and returned by email to training@qmts.net.au prior to this deadline, 21 days before the start of the course and/or exam.

Your place on the course or exam will be confirmed when payment is received. If all the places on your preferred course are filled prior to receiving payment, you will need to enrol in the next available course and/or exam.

The enrolment fee for the course and exam is Course & Exam $3990
The course and exam runs for 5 Days

The total exam time is 5 hours (300 mins). There are 3 parts to the exam:

Theory Part 1 – Duration: 120 mins
Content: Welding Inspection
80 Questions
Required pass mark: 70%

Theory Part 2 – Duration: 90 mins
Content: WPS/WPQR
40 Questions
Required pass mark: 70%

Practical Part 1 – Duration: 90 mins
Content: Exam Specimens
24 Questions
Required pass mark: 70%

If you are unsuccessful in part or all of your initial CSWIP exams, you may re-sit the failed parts at another time in accordance with the following:

  1. You will have 12 months from the date of your initial exam to re-sit the failed part/s, after this time you must repeat the entire examination.
  2. The re-sit exam may not be taken within 30 days of your previous exam, unless additional approved training is undertaken before the re-sit.
  3. If you are unsuccessful in the re-sit exam, you will be required to take the approved course in full again, followed by the full exam (if taken within 6 months of the initial course, you will receive a 50% discount on the course only).

You can choose to re-sit the failed parts of your exam by enrolling on a date reserved for HALF DAY Exams on the course calendar.

QMTS offers a Practical Tuition session in order to refresh your knowledge prior to your exam re-sit. These sessions take place on the Monday of the same week of your re-sit exam, which will take place on a Thursday. Both the training and exam will take place on site at QMTS. The training session runs for 6 hours and costs $440.

To access your results you will need the following details:
• Customer Number
• Exam Date
• Your date of birth

Your customer number will be emailed to you in a Post Exam Email from QMTS Industry Training.

Your Record of Vision Test can be taken to Specsavers or an Optometrist who can complete the test. 

We offer different options depending on which exams you are completing:

  1. Practical Training
    When: This sessions takes place on Monday of the same week of your scheduled exam, which takes place on Thursday. Both the practical training and exam will take place on site at QMTS. 
    Duration: 6 hours
    Cost: $440
  2. E-Learning Refresher
    When: This option is completed online, prior to your scheduled exam (valid for 60 days).
    Cost: $550
